The rules we apply

An unbraked trailer's GVM may not exceed half your vehicle's tare, up to 750kg. A braked trailer's GVM may not exceed your vehicle's tare, up to 3 500kg. Your vehicle's own towing limits apply too.

Brakes vs licence

Your licence depends on the trailer's GVM, not its brakes. Up to 750kg GVM is Code B, braked or not; above 750kg needs Code EB.
